Maraging Steel Powder for Ultra-High Strength and Toughness

GMP® M300™ from Globus Metal Powders is a premium maraging steel powder designed for exceptional strength, toughness, and dimensional stability. Produced via argon inert gas atomisation, this powder features ultra-low oxygen content, tightly controlled minor elements, and optimised spherical particle morphology, ensuring reliable densification and defect-free additive manufacturing or PM-HIP builds. 

M300™ is widely used in aerospace, defence, motorsport, and high-performance tooling, where components must withstand extreme mechanical loads, fatigue, and impact stress. Its low carbon maraging composition allows for precise ageing treatments, delivering ultra-high tensile strength while retaining excellent toughness. 

Differentiation

Across the GMP® portfolio: 

  • Versus nickel superalloys (718, 625, Alloy X, 939): M300 excels in room-temperature and moderate-temperature strength and toughness, while superalloys are selected for high-temperature creep, fatigue, and oxidation resistance. 
  • Versus precipitation-hardening steels (17-4PH, 15-5PH, 13-8Mo): M300 achieves higher ultimate tensile strength and fracture toughness due to its maraging characteristics, whereas PH stainless steels balance corrosion resistance with moderate strength. 
  • Versus stainless steels (316L, F53, 415): M300 provides ultra-high strength and toughness, whereas these stainless steels focus on corrosion resistance and moderate structural performance. 
  • Versus ferritic-martensitic steels (P91, EUROFER97): P91 and EUROFER97 are selected for high-temperature structural stability, while M300 prioritises mechanical performance at moderate temperatures and extreme load-bearing applications. 

 

GMP® ultra-low oxygen powders and tightly controlled minor elements minimise oxide inclusions and internal voids, ensuring defect-free PM-HIP consolidation and additive manufacturing builds. Its spherical particle morphology and optimised PSD guarantee predictable flow, uniform packing, and consistent layer deposition, critical for high-performance components.
