Globus Metal Powders

GMP® Alloy X™

High-Temperature Nickel-Based Superalloy Powder for Extreme Oxidation and Thermal Performance

GMP® Alloy X™ from Globus Metal Powders is a nickel-chromium-cobalt superalloy powder engineered for exceptional high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and thermal stability. Produced via argon inert gas atomisation, this powder features ultra-low oxygen levels, tightly controlled minor elements, and optimised spherical particle morphology, making it suitable for PM-HIP, additive manufacturing (AM), metal injection moulding (MIM), and thermal spray applications.

This powder is designed for extreme temperature environments, such as turbine hot sections, exhaust components, and aerospace hot gas path parts, where both mechanical performance and oxidation protection are critical. Its composition ensures predictable densification, minimal porosity, and consistent microstructure, enabling high-performance, mission-critical components.

Differentiation

Compared to other powders in the Globus portfolio:

  • Versus 718: Alloy X is optimised for oxidation resistance at extreme temperatures, while 718 balances high-temperature strength, creep, and fatigue resistance.
  • Versus 625: 625 is corrosion-focused, particularly for chemical and marine applications, whereas Alloy X delivers ultra-high temperature oxidation protection.
  • Versus 939: Both powders offer high-temperature capability, but 939 prioritises stress rupture and long-term creep performance, whereas Alloy X emphasises oxidation resistance and thermal stability under extreme service conditions.
  • Versus Invar 36: Invar 36 provides dimensional stability, whereas Alloy X is focused on thermal and mechanical performance at elevated temperatures.
  • Versus stainless steels and ferritic/martensitic steels (316L, F53, P91, EUROFER97): Alloy X outperforms these steels in high-temperature oxidation, creep, and thermal cycling resistance, making it the preferred choice for hot-section aerospace and industrial turbine applications.

GMP® ultra-low oxygen powders with tightly controlled minor elements minimise oxide inclusions and internal voids, critical for consistent PM-HIP consolidation and additive manufacturing performance. The spherical particle morphology and optimised particle size distribution (PSD) ensure reliable flow, uniform packing, and defect-free layer deposition.

Applications

  • Aerospace: turbine hot-section blades, vanes, and combustor components.
  • Power Generation: industrial gas turbine hot-section hardware requiring oxidation resistance.
  • Additive Manufacturing: complex high-temperature geometries with defect-free builds.
  • PM-HIP & MIM: near-net-shape, high-strength, oxidation-resistant components.
  • Thermal Spray: protective coatings for components exposed to extreme heat and oxidative environments.

Key Advantages

  • Exceptional high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance for extreme service conditions.
  • Ultra-low oxygen and tightly controlled minor elements for defect-free densification.
  • Spherical particle morphology and optimised PSD for predictable flow, packing, and layering.
  • Internal laboratory verification ensures chemistry, PSD, and density consistency.
  • Customisable powders tailored for PM-HIP, AM, MIM, and thermal spray applications.
