Globus Metal Powders

GMP® 415™

Martensitic Stainless Steel Powder for High Strength and Corrosion Resistance

GMP® 415™ (X3CrNiMo13-4) from Globus Metal Powders is a martensitic stainless steel powder engineered for high-strength structural applications, excellent corrosion resistance, and predictable mechanical performance. Produced via argon inert gas atomisation, this powder features ultra-low oxygen content, tightly controlled minor elements, and optimised spherical particle morphology, making it ideal for PM-HIP, additive manufacturing (AM), and metal injection moulding (MIM).

415™ is widely used in aerospace, defence, and industrial sectors, particularly where components must withstand moderate to high stress and corrosive environments. Its chemistry allows controlled heat treatments to achieve precise hardness and strength, ensuring long-term reliability in demanding applications.

Differentiation

Across the Globus portfolio:

  • Versus 17-4PH, 15-5PH, and 13-8Mo: GMP 415 provides a balanced combination of high strength and corrosion resistance, but with slightly lower precipitation-hardening capability, making it ideal for components requiring moderate hardness with consistent mechanical properties. 17-4PH and 15-5PH are optimised for higher strength and corrosion resistance, while 13-8Mo excels in fatigue-critical applications.
  • Versus nickel superalloys (718, 625, Alloy X, 939): 415 is moderate-temperature, high-strength steel, whereas nickel-based superalloys are selected for extreme high-temperature creep, oxidation, and fatigue resistance.
  • Versus ferritic-martensitic steels (P91, EUROFER97): P91 and EUROFER97 are optimised for high-temperature structural stability, while 415 is targeted at moderate-temperature, load-bearing applications with corrosion resistance.
  • Versus stainless steels (316L, F53): 316L focuses on general corrosion resistance and F53 enhances chloride stress corrosion resistance, whereas 415 balances mechanical strength and moderate corrosion resistance.
  • Versus Invar 36: Invar is designed for low thermal expansion, whereas 415 emphasises mechanical performance with corrosion protection.

GMP® ultra-low oxygen powders with tightly controlled minor elements minimise oxide inclusions, internal voids, and microstructural defects, ensuring defect-free PM-HIP densification and additive manufacturing builds. The spherical particle morphology and optimised particle size distribution (PSD) guarantee predictable flow, uniform packing, and consistent layer deposition.

Applications

  • Aerospace & Defence: structural components, landing gear parts, and high-strength hardware.
  • Industrial Equipment: valves, pumps, and fittings exposed to stress and moderate corrosion.
  • Additive Manufacturing: complex geometries with consistent mechanical performance.
  • PM-HIP & MIM: dense, near-net-shape components with tailored hardness and strength.

Key Advantages

  • High-strength martensitic performance for moderate-temperature applications.
  • Consistent corrosion resistance for industrial, aerospace, and defence applications.
  • Ultra-low oxygen and tightly controlled minor elements for defect-free densification.
  • Spherical particle morphology and optimised PSD for predictable flow, packing, and layer deposition.
  • Internal laboratory verification ensures chemistry, PSD, and density consistency.
  • Customisable powders tailored for PM-HIP, AM, and MIM.
